WEST AFRICAN NUCLEAR & RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING, DETECTION AND RESPONSE TRAINING ORGANIZED BY NNRA

Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) held a three (3) day training course on West African Nuclear and Radiological Monitoring, Detection and Response for its staff in the North West Zonal Office (NWZO) Katsina, from 30th January to 1st February, 2023.

The training aimed at enhancing staff potentials and building capacities in readiness to respond to any nuclear or radiological emergency in Nigeria.

The Acting Zonal Coordinator Mr. Muhammad M. Shagari in a welcome address on behalf of the DG/CEO NNRA opined that the importance of building manpower for the attainment of Nuclear and Radiological Monitoring, Detection and Response cannot be overemphasized as this will help mitigate any radiological incidents and emergencies in the African sub-region. He stressed that it is the paramount responsibility of NNRA to protect life and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation, hence the need for this training.

Mr. Saiyadi Imam Sulaiman, Assistant General Manager, Emergency and Preparedness Response (EPR) Division in his remarks advised participants to take the training serious and expressed his enthusiasm that all participants at the end of the training will be acquainted with the knowledge an EPR Officer must possess.

The training had both lecture and pictorial demonstration sessions on how to assist stakeholders meet with the West African Nuclear and Radiological Monitoring, Detection and Response which is designed to protect the environment from radiological incidents and emergencies in the sub-region.

The training had about twenty (20) Regulatory Officers from the North West Zonal Office, Katsina in attendance
