Dr. Samuel Oyeyemi

General Manager, National Institute of Radiation and Research (NIRPR), Ibadan

Dr. Oyeyemi, Samuel M.  hails from Abeokuta North of Ogun state but was born in Kaduna town, North of Kaduna state. He attended LEA primary school in Kaduna North local government area of the state and later proceeded to Government College Kaduna. Dr Oyeyemi later attended the University of Jos where he obtained his bachelor degree in physics at the age of 22 years. After observing the mandatory NYSC at University of UYO, Akwa Ibom State, he later secured a teaching appointment with the Kaduna Polytechnic in 1995 and later proceeded for an MSc in Radiation Biophysics at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He later obtained his PhD in Nuclear and Radiation Physics at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. After which he started a career as a nuclear physicist thereby developing competency in teaching and radiation protection over decades. Fifteen of these years were in teaching and research in the field of radiation protection with conference and International  Journal publications thereby, rising to the level of a Principal Lecturer with Kaduna Polytechnic. Later, he secured an appointment as a Chief Regulatory Officer with the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority in 2010 and subsequently transferred his services to NNRA. He has been involved in several UNESCO Revitalization Projects, Curricular Development for Teachers etc. He has also attended IAEA workshops and training in the field of Radiation Protection specifically, radioactive waste management; these include workshops and publications such as the following:

OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS

He was the Pioneer North Central Zonal Coordinator of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority from 2014 to 2018 and was later assigned a higher responsibility as the Acting Head of the National Institute for Radiation Protection and Research in between 2018 and December 2022.

In October 2018 Dr Oyeyemi was designated by the IAEA as the counterpart person for radiation safety Thematic Safety Area 4 (TSA 4). He was responsible for Public and Environmental protection as additional dimension for now and the future, which is still ongoing

Dr Oyeyemi, S.M  was later promoted and confirmed as the General Manager National Institute of Radiation Protection and Research in January 2022. He is responsible for superintending over the activities of the NIRPR, a Technical Support Organization of NNRA. Thereby, ensuring the Maintenance of standards in Dosimetry and Radiation measurement in the country. He is also responsible for Environmental Radiation Safety in food, water, etc samples for the public.

He has attracted several grants from IAEA for Nigeria and NNRA through projects that enhance medical exposure safety

His HOBBIES include Tennis, Running, Reading, and Traveling
