The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) today hosted a delegation from the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and its subsidiary, the China Isotope and Radiation Corporation (CIRC), led by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
The visit focused on strengthening collaboration in the peaceful application of nuclear technology, particularly in enhancing cancer treatment infrastructure and access to advanced medical equipment in Nigeria.
Dr. Kana emphasized the importance of leveraging nuclear technology to improve cancer care, highlighting the need for modern radiopharmaceuticals and radiotherapy solutions.
NNRA Director General, Dr. Yau Idris, reiterated the Authority’s role in ensuring the safe, secure, and regulated use of nuclear materials and stressed the importance of strict compliance with international standards.
Representatives from CNNC and CIRC expressed commitment to supporting Nigeria’s cancer control efforts through the supply of nuclear medicine equipment and training for local professionals in radiation safety and nuclear medicine.
This engagement marks a step forward in expanding international cooperation to enhance public health through nuclear science.
