A meeting was held between the South-South Zonal Office Head; Mrs. Evelyn Vincent-Furo and MD/CEO of Save A Life Mission Hospital; Dr. Richard Okoye at his office in Port-Harcourt on 25th June, 2024.
During the meeting, the ZC expressed gratitude to Dr. Okoye for obliging the Authority with the time to discuss pending regulatory matters. She said the meeting was a follow-up on an unscheduled visit tagged “operation show your license” inspection carried out earlier by the Office.
Speaking, Mrs. Furo pointed out that the hospital was behind in their Authorization and needed to update all payments to avoid enforcement actions; emphasizing that the NNRA was backed by law to ensure all facilities using equipment emitting ionizing radiation come under regulatory control.
She also commended the CEO for his admirable work in the healthcare system and for educating the public on the importance of healthy living through his radio programme on 88.9FM every morning. She appealed to him to give a segment to the NNRA which will avail the Authority the opportunity to sensitize and educate the public on its roles and responsibilities, part of which is to ensure the protection of lives, property and the environment against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
In response, Dr Okoye assured the NNRA of the hospital’s continuous partnership and promised to resolve pending Authorization matters within the shortest possible time. He also agreed to offer a segment on his radio programme and asked the NNRA to liaise with the head of programmes for a suitable timing.
After the meeting at Save A Life Mission Hospital, the delegation made a stop at Princess Medical and Diagnostic Centre, Trans Amadi where they were received by the Assistant Head, Corporate Services; Mr. Amos Agbontaen who also promised to update them on all payments.
