SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT ON HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION VISITS NNRA

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) received the Senior Special Assistance (SSA) to the President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation,Hon. Delu Bulus Yakubu, at its Headquarters, on the 31^st of January, 2024.

The goal of the meeting was to develop synergy and collaboration in sensitizing the citizenry on the policies associated with welfare services of Government to the masses and to raise awareness on the hazards associated with oil exploration and mining in the country

The SSA to the President, said collaborating with NNRA on the reduction of poverty in the communities where environmental hazards is being experienced due to exploration of oil will be of immense benefits to the affected communities through the help of NNRA and thus implore NNRA’s Management to collaborate with her office to empower the vulnerable women and youths especially those experiencing negative impacts of oil exploration in the Niger Delta Region.     

The DG NNRA, Dr. Yau Idris, reiterated the core mandate of NNRA which is to regulate the use of nuclear energy, develop and implement safety standards and ensure the protection of life, health and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. He stated that NNRA is ready to collaborate with the office of the (SSA) to sensitize the public to ensure maximum protection of vulnerable citizens and the environment and pledged to set up a committee comprising both organizations to work towards achieving the set out goals.
