PRESIDENT TINUBU SIGNS FOUR NEW NUCLEAR SAFETY REGULATIONS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria signed four new nuclear safety regulations to prepare Nigeria towards development of Nuclear energy for electricity generation. The Regulations were developed by the NNRA in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Federal Ministry of Justice. The Regulations were submitted to Mr President for endorsement by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources-Oil Senator Dr Heineken Lokpobiri. The regulations are:

1. Nigerian Design and Construction of Nuclear Power Plant Regulations, 2023
2. Nigerian Transportation of Radioactive Material Regulations, 2023
3. ⁠Nigerian Basic Ionizing Radiation Regulations, 2023
4. ⁠Nigerian Radioactive Waste and Spent Nuclear Fuel Management Regulations, 2023
