The Director General, Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority(NNRA), Dr. Yau Idris has sought better collaboration between the Agency and the Ondo State Government towards ensuring protection of life, health, property and the environment from harmful effects of radiation.
Idris made the call in his speech at an official meeting between the Agency and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharmacist (Mrs.) Folukemi Aladenola and the Management Staff of the Ministry held at the office of the Permanent Secretary today.
Idris who was represented at the meeting by the Zonal Coordinator, South West of the Authority, Mr. Olatunji Okoya averred that such collaboration with all stakeholders in the state becomes imperative in order to ensure that people comply with the rules and regulations of the Authority on radiation safety.
He said the meeting was convened to build the capacity of participants in relation to protection and safety rules and regulations and to let them know what the Authority stands for.
The Director General who stressed the need to subject all sources of ionizing radiation to regulatory control affirmed that the Authority has introduced safety standards to protect people from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
Responding, Aladenola assured the authority of collaboration stressing that the present administration in the state prioritises every issue that will improve the health system in Ondo State.
The Permanent Secretary said that the Ministry remains committed to the sustenance of its mandate of delivering qualitative and robust health care services to the people of the state.
Aladenola charged the Authority to continue to sensitise Nigerians on the need to prioritise their safety as the people need more details about the steps to take towards ensuring their safety.
The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority(NNRA) is the institution saddled with the mandate of enforcing nuclear safety and radiological protection regulations in Nigeria.
