The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) paid a visit to Dr. Yau Idris, the DG/CEO of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
The primary objective of the visit was to formally introduce NUPENG Zonal Chairman, Comrade Lawal Abdulrahman, and the recently elected Branch Executives Officers in NNRA to the NNRA Management. This strategic meeting facilitated a platform for open dialogue and collaboration between NNRA and NUPENG, emphasizing the significance of unity within the industry.
During the meeting, NUPENG articulated specific requests, urging the NNRA Management to reevaluate and address pending issues that are on the front burner of the union. They also sought lasting solutions to ensure a harmonious working relationship and address any challenges that might impede the smooth operation of both entities.
Dr. Yau Idris welcomed the NUPENG delegation and acknowledged the importance of constructive engagement between regulatory bodies and industry unions. He expressed NNRA's commitment to maintaining a cooperative environment and fostering a positive working relationship with NUPENG.
As part of the ongoing dialogue, NUPENG emphasized the need for continuous support from NNRA Management, particularly in the areas of capacity building and union matters. The union asserted that sustained support from NNRA is pivotal for the empowerment of its members and the enhancement of their capabilities in the petroleum and natural gas sector.
Both parties expressed optimism about future collaborations that will contribute to the overall progress and efficiency of the energy sector in Nigeria.
