As part of her responsibility to equip her staff and stakeholders with adequate knowledge in areas of specialization as it relates to nuclear safety and security, the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) through its Nuclear Security Center (NSC) organized a 5-day Retreat on “Curricula Development on Introductory and Intermediate Training Courses on Nuclear Security” on 7th to 11th December, 2020 at the NNRA Headquarters, Abuja.
The retreat was aimed at developing a syllabi and corresponding training materials for introductory and intermediate courses on nuclear security for nuclear and radiological industry workers and stakeholders. The exercise is to create a sustainable and effective human resource capacity programme through the provision and implementation of a national training program that will meet the requirements of the national nuclear security regime.
The Director General/CEO Dr. Yau Idris, thanked the invited experts for accepting to share their knowledge and experiences by contributing vital inputs to the success of the document. He thanked the NSC Coordinator, Mr. Adamu Abdul and his team for putting together this retreat and urged them not to relent but ensure the goal for the retreat is achieved.
The Team Lead, Prof. Ayoade Kuye of the Center for Nuclear Studies, University of Port Harcourt, commended the DG NNRA for his audacious efforts in not only providing a conducive working atmosphere for its Staff but also for providing grounds for adequate human capacity development. He reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the document meets international best practices and standards hence providing a more proficiency in the workforce of the NNRA and the industry at large.
The highlight of the event was the official presentation of the bonded document to the DG/CEO and the DG in return gifted each of the team members a plaque as friends of NNRA.
