NPF SEEKS FURTHER COLLABORATION WITH NNRA

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) received CP Patrick Adedeji Atayero, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Explosive Ordinance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) of the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on 18th April, 2024.

The meeting aimed at enhancing the existing collaboration between NNRA and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) particularly in the critical areas of nuclear safety and physical security of radioactive sources within Nigeria.

DG/CEO NNRA, Dr. Idris Yau, in his welcome address, uttered that part of NNRA’s mandate is to ensure the safety and security of radioactive sources and nuclear materials by putting in place the best regulatory control regime for all activities involving ionizing radiation in the country.

He said NNRA has strategically opened offices across the six Geo-Political Zones to ensure the protection of nuclear and other radioactive materials against any malicious acts across the country. He thanked the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for always providing security and cover during the Authority’s routine operations, especially regarding the safety and security protocols governing the handling and transportation of radioactive substances.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Patrick Adedeji Atayero, Explosive Ordinance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN), appreciated the DG/CEO and his team for a job well done in the area of radiological protection, nuclear security and safety in the country. He stated that collaborating with NNRA will further strengthen the national security regime, measures, and systems, thereby ensuring the well-being and protection of the Nigerian populace. He craved NNRA’s indulgence to always include the NPF in their capacity-building programs for greater competencies in this area.
