Dr. Humphrey Mac-Eteli, Coordinator of the National Nuclear Security Coordination Centre (NNSCC), delivered an in-depth presentation outlining the Centre’s efforts to enhance Nigeria’s nuclear security architecture.
Dr. Mac-Eteli underscored the critical role of the NNSCC in supporting competent authorities, licensees, and other relevant stakeholders with responsibilities in nuclear security. He emphasized the Centre’s commitment to fostering a resilient and sustainable national nuclear security regime, aligned with both strategic imperatives and operational best practices.
Among the Centre’s notable milestones is organization of Nuclear Security Week at the yearly DSS Institute of Security Studies intelligence Management Course and its contribution to the 17th International Emergency Management Conference (EIMC-17), where nuclear security modules were presented— an initiative that signified Nigeria’s active engagement in advancing global nuclear safety and security discourse. He reiterated Nigeria’s unwavering dedication to the international community in safeguarding nuclear and radiological materials across its territory.
He also mentioned the Centre’s cybersecurity programme, which has over 100 hands-on training exercises aimed at enhancing the digital resilience of nuclear-related systems and facilities.
The presentation served to reinforce the NNSCC’s vital role in promoting both national and international nuclear security objectives.
