NNRA TRAINS STAFF ON AUTHORIZATION, INSPECTION AND LICENSING PROCESSES IN NUCLEAR MEDICINE PRACTICE AT THE NORTH-WEST ZONAL OFFICE, KATSINA

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) organized a five day training on Authorization, Inspection and Licensing Procedure of Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy Licensing practice for its Staff in the North West Zonal Office, (NWZO) Katsina, from 20th to 24th June, 2022.

The training was aimed at enhancing staff potentials and capacities towards discharging their duty of ensuring maximum protection of patients, workers and the general public from the risk associated with the exposure to ionizing radiation in nuclear medicine practice in Nigeria.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Acting Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Muhammad M. Shagari, appreciated the Director General/CEO, Dr. Yau Idris for availing them this educative and informative training to acquire more skills to discharge their job effectively and efficiently. He maintained that the protection of patients, workers and public from the risk associated with exposure to ionizing radiation in Nigeria cannot be over emphasized because,  it is the primary responsibility of the NNRA to protect life and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.

Mr. Farouq Abdulrasheed Ingawa, Deputy General Manager, Radiological Safety  (RS), who represented the DG/CEO NNRA advised participants to take the training seriously and hoped that at the end of the training session, all participants will be acquainted with the necessary competence and knowledge an inspector requires for the efficient discharge of his regulatory duties.

The training comprised of both lectures and practical demonstration sessions on Nuclear Medicine practice in Nigeria, and also how to assist Licensees meet radiation safety and protection requirements in Nuclear Medicine for the attainment of adequate radiation protection and safety of patients, workers and the public.

The training had all Regulatory Officers from the North West Zonal Office, Katsina in attendance.
