NNRA TRAINS REGULATORS ON NUCLEAR SAFETY AND SECURITY.

The NNRA kicked off a 5-day National Training Course for regulators in nuclear safety and security, from November 5-9, 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria.

This training course which was made possible by Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Olamilekan Adeola aims to enhance the capacity of nuclear regulatory staff in ensuring the safe and secure operation of nuclear facilities in Nigeria.

Dr. Yau Idris DG of NNRA, opened the event by highlighting the importance of nuclear safety and security as the core function of NNRA, stating that the Authority will continue to be proactive in developing capacity to strengthen its regulatory control regime particularly for all activities involving ionizing radiation.

The training is part of NNRA's efforts to address emerging threats, adapt to new technologies and adhere to International Safety Standards.

Dr. Idris noted, "We are part of a global community dedicated to nuclear safety, and together, we can achieve remarkable progress".

He expressed appreciation to the European Union for providing expertise and support, noting that the EU is simultaneously conducting training on Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA) and Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) in Nigeria.

He urged participants to learn from the expertise of the resource persons and to engage in in-depth interactions on strategies for advancing Nigeria's regulatory frameworks.
