NNRA TRAINS RADIATION SAFETY OFFICERS

The National Institute of Radiation Protection and Research (NIRPR), a technical arm of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) conducts a one-week National Training Course (NTC) for Radiation Safety Officers (RSO) working in industries from 4th - 8th October 2021, at Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Training is in line with NNRA’s strategic plan to equip her RSOs on expected safety protocols while carrying out their duties in their respective facilities and also to elucidate the importance of a Radiation Safety Officer in the procurement of a license for a facility.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Acting Head of the Institute, Dr. S. M. Oyeyemi, said that renewing of certificates and consistent RSO training for at least every 2 years is very important before they run some expected safety protocols in their facilities.

He also said that the Authority collaborates with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) while using the reviewed modules and materials to achieve best training for the RSO’s.

The training is attended by 120 persons drawn from the facilities and NIRPR of the Authority.
