NNRA TRAINS ITS STAFF ON TECHNICAL WRITING

A Five day workshop on Technical Writing was organized by the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) for Staff of the Authority. The Workshop was held at the NNRA Headquarters, Abuja from 30th May to 3rd June 2022.

The objective of the workshop was to familiarize the participants with writing processes and formats of inspection reports, technical reports, review and assessment reports, as well as reports of workshops, trainings and meetings. It was also to provide an avenue to share and discuss good practices and challenges in report writing between participants and Resource Persons.

At the opening ceremony, the Director General/CEO, Dr. Yau Idris, commended the Department of Nuclear Safety, Physical Security and Safeguards (NSPSS) for organizing such an educative and important workshop. He noted that, the importance of technical writing cannot be over emphasized, as it is one of the requirements for documentation all activities. He advised the participants to take the training serious and use the opportunity to enhance their writing skills and competence.

In his remarks, the General Manager NSPSS, Dr. N. A. Bello noted that the training was first of its kind and was aimed at enhancing effective technical writing in line with best practice in the workplace. He opined that, it was necessary to train Staff of the Authority on technical writing skills; especially new employees who are still in the process of developing competence on various skills and concepts. He noted with optimism that the workshop would enable participants acquire good skills while discharging their duties in report writing, presentations and proper documentation. Finally, he thanked the DG/CEO for his continuous support in ensuring capacity building and development of Staff of the Authority.

The training which included both lecture and practical sessions covered the basics of report writing, scientific research writing and introduction to science and art of presentations.

Participants were drawn from various departments of the Authority and Resource Persons included experienced Staff of the Authority.
