NNRA TO PARTNER WOMEN IN ENERGY, OIL AND GAS (WEOG) ON PEACEFUL USW OF NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY

The DG/CEO Dr. Yau Idris received the Executives of Women in Oil and Gas in his office at the NNRA Headquarters in Abuja, on 4th April 2024. The group led by the National President Dr. Dunni Owo, congratulated the DG/CEO on his reappointment by the President and appreciated him on the support the group has received from the NNRA up till date.

She added that the group is seeking closer collaboration and partnership with the NNRA on key areas of Knowledge sharing, Capacity Building for Members of the group and promotion of peaceful usage of nuclear technology for energy efficiency in Nigeria.

The group is also to ensure the country’s oil & gas potentials are efficiently showcased for collective growth and development, and also to promote women participation in the field of Nuclear Energy.

Responding, the DG/CEO thanked the group for the visit and pledged NNRA’s close collaboration and support.  He used the opportunity of the courtesy call to enlighten the group on NNRA’s core functions and responsibilities such as in the oil & gas, medical applications, manufacturing  and construction Industries, Agriculture and other sectors using ionizing radiation and hence the provision for the NNRA functions in the Petroleum industry Act of 2021.  He added that NNRA is spread across the county with 12 operational & states offices in the Six geographical zones.

The DG further encouraged them to use their advocacy Platform to call for good legislations from the Legislative and executive arms of government  for adequate funding of the sector in order to activate the numerous potentials in the energy sector especially gas exploration and other energy mix

Dr. Yau, reiterated NNRA’s commitment to supporting  the group in areas of training collaboration, NNRA participation in the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) coming up later in the year and knowledge sharing.

Highlight of the visit was the 50% reduction registration fee for NNRA corporate membership and the decoration of Mrs. Ekeocha Christabel as the pioneer Chairperson of the Nuclear Energy Committee of the Women in oil and Gas in Nigeria.
