NNRA SOUTH-SOUTH ZONAL COORDINATOR PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO RIVERS STATE COMMISSIONER OF HEALTH

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority South-South Zonal Office paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Commissioner of Health in Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh on 29^th July, 2024.

During the visit, the Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Evelyn Vincet-Furo, submitted that the visit was to brief the Honorable Commissioner of Health on the regulatory activities and practices of the NNRA-SSZO in Rivers State and to enhance collaborative efforts towards ensuring that all medical facilities in Rivers State are brought under regulatory control.

She highlighted the vision, mission and functions of the NNRA, and noted that its core mandate is the protection of lives, health, property and the environment against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. She added that the primary concern of the NNRA is to ensure radiological protection of the public, patients, and occupational workers through the safety and security of radioactive sources and nuclear materials.

In her response, the Honorable Commissioner appreciated the Zonal Coordinator and her team for visiting and equally noted the significant work the Authority does in the area of protecting and saving of human lives from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. She promised to support the NNRA in ensuring medical facilities are brought under regulatory control and involve the Authority during the designing, construction and equipping stages of the state’s general hospitals which are currently undergoing civil construction.

Furthermore, Dr. Adaeze Oreh assured NNRA that she will mandate the Department of Medical Services to partner with the NNRA to ensure that renewal of NNRA licenses are undertaken by all medical facilities in Rivers State.
