A milestone event signifying the collaboration for the advancement of nuclear knowledge in Nigeria took place as the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kaduna State University (KASU) in respect of capacity building in the nuclear field and other related matters on the 9th July, 2024.
The event was carried out at the NNRA Headquarters Abuja, with the Director General of NNRA, Dr Yau Usman Idris and the Vice Chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa signing the legal documents on behalf of their respective organizations.
The MOU is primarily to explore opportunities in developing, promoting, and enriching research activities, education and training programs, especially in nuclear science, radiation safety as well as other pertinent areas of interest that will benefit both organizations and enrich nuclear education in Nigeria. The agreement also addressed issues like the exchange of training programs, joint research projects, conferences, workshops, internships, and the sharing of resources and expertise all aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the sector.
The DG/CEO of NNRA, Dr. Yau Idris extolled the importance of building capacity in nuclear science and technology and stated that this MOU marks an important milestone in the nuclear world as it will advance knowledge that will address global nuclear challenges.
The VC of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi Musa in his response, submitted that the MOU was proof of both organization's commitment to collaborate and leverage on each other’s strengths and expertise to drive innovations and programs. He stated that the programs, especially those that will not involve huge financial commitments will commence immediately.
