NNRA PARTICIPATES IN THE NUCLEAR SECURITY WEEK AT THE EXECUTIVE INTELLIGENCE MANAGEMENT COURSE 2021

The 2021 Nuclear Security Week was marked in Abuja with a 2 day Workshop organized by the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) themed ‘’Towards Entrenchment of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Culture and Awareness in Nigeria’’ from 20th -21st October, 2021.

Participants from the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) together with others from various organizations attended this year’s Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 14. The training focused on engaging high level nuclear security officers on discussions that will promote the nuclear industry, and create awareness on nuclear safety and security in the country.

The training also aimed at educating officers on the contemporary means to prevent, detect and respond to malicious acts involving radioactive substances or directed at facilities.

The DG/CEO, NNRA, Dr. Yau Idris, was ably represented by Dr. Nasiru-deen Bello, General Manager Nuclear Safety, Physical Security and Safeguards. In his paper presentation at the workshop, he stated that nuclear security is a state responsibility that is enhanced by consistent implementation of international programmes for strengthening and systematic assessment of nuclear security needs.

The workshop was attended by 120 participants from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Security, Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Nigerian Police, Nigerian Customs, Immigration, Civil Defense, and members from two African Countries – Ghana, Gambia, and NNRA.
