NNRA OPERATIONAL OFFICE BAYELSA ACHIEVES LANDMARK RADIATION SAFETY MILESTONES

On Wednesday, 10th September 2025, the Coordinator of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority Operational Office, Bayelsa  Mr. Benedict Esendu, highlighted the office’s key achievements since its establishment in March 2023. Created in line with Section 39 of the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act, the office oversees radiological safety and regulatory compliance across Bayelsa, Delta, and Edo States.

Mr. Esendu reported that the Bayelsa office has successfully carried out 74 inspections from its inception to date, extended regulatory oversight to 44 medical facilities, and implemented emergency response protocols to strengthen public safety. The office has also organized sensitization programs for industry operators, healthcare professionals, and security agencies to raise awareness and ensure strict adherence to radiation protection standards.

Reaffirming the NNRA’s mission, Mr. Esendu emphasized the authority’s commitment to protecting lives and the environment from harmful radiation. He pledged that the Bayelsa office will continue to deepen stakeholder collaboration and build on its progress to ensure nuclear safety and regulatory excellence in the South-South region and beyond.
