The session brought together key stakeholders from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) and the Academia.

The meeting was attended by the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the NNRA, some senior directors from the NNRA, Director of Policy and Strategy from ONSA, renowned nuclear expert Prof. Viva Ibrahim from CERT, ABU, Zaria and Secretariat of the Coordinating Council.

The Coordinating Council deliberated extensively on strategic pathways for strengthening the operations and national relevance of the NNSCC. Discussions focused on enhancing the Centre’s role in national nuclear security coordination, capacity building, and inter-agency collaboration.

A key highlight of the meeting was the exploration of sustainable funding mechanisms, with the ONSA expressing interest in supporting the Centre’s strategic initiatives and operational expansion. The Council acknowledged the need for closer synergy among government agencies, academic institutions, and regulatory bodies to advance Nigeria’s nuclear security architecture.

The meeting concluded with actionable recommendations. The Coordinating Council agreed to reconvene in July to review progress and advance discussions on the implementation of proposed initiatives.
