NNRA HOSTED PARTICIPANTS OF SENIOR EXECUTIVE COURSE 45 OF NIPSS

The DG/CEO of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority Dr. Yau Idris in company of his Management Staff received participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 45, 2023 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru on 4th April, 2023 at the NNRA Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit aimed to undertake a study tour and NNRA was one of the strategic institutions selected for the purpose. The theme of the study was “industrialization, climate change and energy security in Nigeria: issues, challenges and prospects”.

Dr. Idris in his welcome address remarked that the visit was a good development as this is the first time the Authority would be receiving a delegation from NIPSS. He highlighted the core functions of the NNRA which is primarily to ensure nuclear safety, nuclear security and radiation protection in Nigeria. He enumerated the various sectors which the NNRA regulates, which include but not limited to; Oil and Gas, Health, Mining, Science and Technology, Manufacturing and Construction, Education and Research, Agriculture and Security Agencies. He went further to outline the NNRA Offices operating in the Six geopolitical zones of the country, the State Offices and National Institute of Radiation Protection and Research, Ibadan which is the technical support organization of the NNRA.

The team lead, Prof. Dung Pam Sha, while delivering his address stated that NIPSS is the nation’s foremost “think-tank” group that is conceived as a high level institution with the primary objective of developing a crop of top-class technocrats who will conceptualize and anchor the implementation of innovative and dynamic policy initiatives as well as strategies critical for national development. He added that the SEC programme and theme for year 2023 was approved by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency President Muhammad Buhari and reports of their findings will be communicated to him accordingly.

He said that the selection of NNRA as a strategic institution was as a result of its key role in the energy sector of the economy and its competence in carrying out its mandate of nuclear safety and radiation protection in the country. He thanked the DG and his management team for obliging to their request of the visit and the warm reception.

A presentation detailing the functions and activities of the NNRA was delivered by Dr. Mbet Akpanowo, Assistant General Manager, Nuclear Safety and Security Department, and an inclusive interactive session was held after the presentation.
