NNRA HOLD CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATION ROUNDTABLE AND MEDIA BRIEF ON SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) in collaboration with Integrity Advocacy for Development Initiative (IADI) held a round table and media brief on sustainable economic growth and development at the Committee Hall of the National Centre for Women Development on 16^th August, 2022.

The aim of the gathering was to enlighten Civil Society (CSO) and Media organizations on NNRA’s role in Nigeria’s economy and the important role the media and CSO’s need to play in engaging the general public on NNRA’s actualization of its mandate and vision to the country.

The Director General/CEO, Dr. Yau Usman was ably represented by the Deputy General Manager, General Services and Training, Mr. Lanre Adeoye welcomed the NNRA management team, CSOs and Media Outlets present at the event. He emphasized on the importance of Nuclear Energy in the economic development of Nigeria and NNRA’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He stressed the need to have such roundtable discussions occasionally to improve synergy `between NNRA and CSO’s in Nigeria.

Mr. Splendor Agbonkpolora of the Initiative for Leadership and Economic Watch in Nigeria commended the NNRA and the IADI for providing such a platform to educate the participants on Nuclear Energy. He focused on the need of the CSOs and the media to further come up with measures to change the negative perception Nigerians have on Nuclear Energy and its safety.

In attendance were key Management Staff of NNRA from various departments; Administration and Finance, Nuclear Safety, Physical Security and Safeguards, Information Unit and Members of the Media and CSOs who play a prominent role in Nigeria’s society.
