
The Director General/CEO of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA), Dr. Yau Idris, today kicked off the Authority’s first in-house seminar for 2026, highlighting NNRA’s journey and major milestones in strengthening nuclear safety, security and radiation protection in Nigeria.
In his presentation, the DG reflected on the Authority’s progress over the years and the growing role of nuclear technology in national development. He noted that the NNRA conducted 741 regulatory inspections in 2025 and issued 1,472 authorizations for nuclear and radiation-related activities, demonstrating the Authority’s expanding regulatory oversight across key sectors.
Dr. Yau, further revealed that the Authority’s internally generated revenue has grown significantly from 600 million naira in 2018 to over 3 billion naira in 2025, a development he said reflects improved operational efficiency and increased regulatory activities.
He urged staff of the Authority to remain committed to professionalism, integrity and excellence in the discharge of their duties, stressing that the NNRA plays a critical role in ensuring that nuclear technologies are deployed safely for national socioeconomic development.
The CEO also reaffirmed NNRA’s commitment to protecting lives, property and the environment while promoting the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology in Nigeria.
The NNRA in-house seminar series serves as an internal knowledge sharing platform designed to strengthen staff capacity and deepen understanding of the Authority’s regulatory mandate.
