It is pertinent to note that no premises is immune to fire, even though the apparent risk may appear low, there is always something to burn and once an outbreak starts it spreads with alarming speed.
Carelessness has been identified as the common denominator in majority fire accidents worldwide.
In order to ensure the protection of lives and property, loss prevention as well as public safety from fire accidents and emergency hazards, the Emergency, Preparedness and Response (EPR) Unit of the NNRA conducted Fire Emergency Drill at the Headquarter in Abuja on Friday 20th August, 2021.
The drill, being the second in the year, provides workers the opportunity to rehearse their possible actions in real time fire accidents and to identify staff weakness in the emergency plan process and procedures.
The exercise also aimed at improving workers strength, preparedness level and familiarizing them with the NNRA emergency plan.
Addressing the staff after the drill, the General Manager Administration and Finance Department, Mr. Mathias Vyounku stated that the exercise was part of Management’s responsibility to create safety awareness amongst staff and ascertain their promptness in cases of possible fire outbreaks.
He applauded staff for their prompt response to the alarm and admonished them to always be at alert and respond quickly to emergency, as their safety is paramount. He reiterated the commitment of Management towards ensuring that measures are put in place to guarantee the safety and security of staff, public and the environment.
