NNRA CONDUCTED AN EMERGENCY FIRE DRILL, MAY 2022

The NNRA as a competent regulatory body in Nigeria with responsibility of nuclear safety, security and safeguards is ensuring the safety and security of its staff not only from the effects of ionizing radiation but also from other emergencies like fire, flood etc. In this regard, the Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Unit of the NNRA conducted an emergency fire drill at the Headquarters in Abuja on Friday 6^th May, 2022.

The drill is a periodic unscheduled exercise to sensitize and educate Staff on the proper safety measures, proper evacuation routes and practices during fire emergencies. It was set to measure the alertness and response of Staff in an event of a real time emergency at work place. The goal is to have the proper action on automatic response whenever fire alarms sound, so that everyone safely evacuates the area in an orderly manner.

The EPR Unit Head, Mr. Saiyadi Sulaiman stated that the drill was an important part of Management’s responsibility to ensure the safety and security of its Staff from fire emergencies. He noted that even though it was a drill, the response time was impressive as Staff of the Authority responded to the alarm quickly and were gathered at the Muster Point accordingly. He urged Staff that did not respond promptly to always do so whenever the alarm triggers in order to save their lives and avert severe casualties.

Mr. Mathias Vyonku, the General Manager Administration and Finance commended the EPR unit for pulling such a wonderful emergency drill and urged the staff to always be at alert and respond quickly to alarms.
