The Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Unit of the NNRA conducted an emergency fire drill at the Headquarters in Abuja on Friday 4th December, 2020.
The NNRA as a competent regulatory body in Nigeria with responsibility of nuclear safety, security and safeguards is ensuring the safety and security of its staff not only from the effects of ionizing radiation but also from other emergencies hence the need for the emergency fire drill.
The drill was set to measure the alertness and response of Staff in an event of a realtime emergency at work place. It was conducted to familiarize and re-enforce proper evacuation routes and practices. The goal is to have the proper action on automatic response whenever fire alarms sound, so that everyone safely evacuates the area in an orderly manner.
The EPR Unit head, Mr. Saiyadi Sulaiman stated that the drill was an important part of Management’s responsibility to ensure the safety and security of its Staff from fire emergencies. He noted that even though it was a false alarm, the response time was impressive as Staff of the Authority responded to the alarm quickly and were gathered at the Muster Point accordingly. He urged Staff that did not respond promptly to always do so whenever the alarm triggers in order to save their lives and avert severe casualties.
The DG/CEO and all Management Staff participated during the drill.
