NNRA COMMENCES TRAIN-THE-TRAINER WORKSHOP ON MEDICAL APPLICATION SAFETY

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) has commenced a three-day Train-the-Trainer Workshop on Medical Application Safety, holding from 21–23 September 2026, to strengthen the capacity of regulatory professionals in the inspection and oversight of medical applications involving ionising radiation. The workshop focuses on key areas including Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Cyclotron practice and Radiotherapy.

Representing the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the NNRA, Dr. Yau Usman Idris, at the opening ceremony was the General Manager, Radiological Safety Department, Mr. Farouq Ingawa. In his remarks, Mr. Ingawa stressed the importance of continuous professional development in strengthening regulatory oversight and promoting safety in medical applications. He noted that building the capacity of personnel responsible for inspection and regulatory activities is essential to ensuring effective protection of patients, healthcare workers, the public and the environment.

The workshop combines technical presentations with practical inspection exercises, reviews and assessments of inspection reports, interactive discussions and group activities. Participants are expected to deepen their understanding of inspection practices across diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, medical cyclotron and radiotherapy facilities, while also developing the capacity to transfer acquired knowledge and skills to colleagues within their respective areas of responsibility.
