NNRA CARRIES OUT COMPLIANCE INSPECTION AT NIGERIAN PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT COMPANY LIMITED

In line with NNRA’s mandate to ensure safe application of ionizing radiation and protection of life, property and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation, a team of NNRA inspectors from the Department of Authorization and Enforcement led by Engr. Yunusa Muhammad carried out a Compliance Inspection at the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited (NPDC) Edo State, a subsidiary of NNPC, from the 28th of June to the 1st of July, 2021.

The inspection exercise aimed at assessing NPDC’s compliance with the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act 19 of 1995, Nigerian Basic Ionizing Radiation Regulations 2006 and other related nuclear well logging operations; the terms and conditions of NPDC’s Registration of Premises Certificates for 2021; Emergency Procedures with respect to the conduct of full scope Emergency Exercise was carried out to validate NPDC’s emergency plans and procedures.

Facilities are thus expected to comply with all the requirements enshrined in the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act 19 of 1995, Nigerian Basic Ionization Radiation Regulation, 2003 and the Nigerian Radiation Safety in Nuclear Well Logging Regulations, 2008.
