NNRA AND NIRPR ADVANCES RADIATION SAFETY AND RESEARCH IN NIGERIA

The National Institute of Radiation Protection and Research (NIRPR) the technical arm of NNRA is playing a vital role in advancing radiation safety and research in Nigeria. Speaking during the NNRA’s weekly in-house seminar, the Institute’s General Manager, Dr. Samuel Oyeyemi, highlighted some of NIRPR's key achievements which includes participating in the IAEA Coordination Research Project Grant on

  1. Evaluation of dosimetry needs , practices and update of TRS-457-E24024' and
  2. Advancing in maintenance, repair, and calibration of radiation detection equipment.

NIRPR provides various services to support radiation safety and research. These services include Technical Services, such as training, calibration, and dosimetry services, as well as training services, which offer short-term courses for Radiation Safety Officers. Additionally, the Institute offers calibration services for survey meters, contamination monitors, and other equipment. These services demonstrate NNRA’s commitment to ensuring radiation safety and security in Nigeria. They also carry out research and publications on nuclear technologies.

NNRA and NIRPR ensures that Nigeria meets its international obligations on the peaceful uses of nuclear technology. By prioritizing radiation safety and security, they are protecting the health and well-being of Nigerians.
