The NNRA and IAEA have kicked off a four-day review mission to evaluate and strengthen Nigeria's nuclear security framework. The mission aims to ensure effective measures are in place to prevent, detect, and respond to nuclear threats. This review is part of the Integrated Nuclear Security Sustainability Plan (INSSP), which serves as a strategic framework for consolidating Nigeria's nuclear security needs and implementing necessary improvements.
Dr Yau Idris , Director General, NNRA, during the opening ceremony stated that INSSP is reviewed every three years to keep Nigeria aligned with international best practices. He further stated that the 2025 review will focus on key areas, including national policy and strategy, legislative and regulatory framework, prevention, detection, response, and continuous improvement.
This mission has IAEA experts led by Mr. Zephirin Athanase and 34 participants representing various government agencies in Nigeria.
