The NNRA in collaboration with the IAEA is hosting an Expert Mission to install an online National Dose Registry (NDR) system at the NNRA Headquarters, in Abuja. The Mission also includes training NNRA staff on the operation of the NDR. The Mission is from 9 to 13 December 2024.

This initiative is part of the IAEA’s regional project RAF9070: Enhancing Radiation Safety Infrastructure (AFRA) with regards to occupational radiation protection in Africa.

Dr. Quanfu Sun, the IAEA lead expert from the National Institute for Radiological Protection, China, expressed enthusiasm about visiting Nigeria. He is willing to share China’s expertise in radiation protection and individual monitoring. Dr. Sun also mentioned that the team would visit hospitals and Dosimetry Service Providers in Nigeria to observe current practices and identify areas for improvement.

The DG/CEO of NNRA, ably represented by Mr. Farouq Ingawa, General Manager, Radiological Safety Department, expressed gratitude to the IAEA for granting Nigeria's request for the online NDR system, making Nigeria the first beneficiary of this innovative technology.

He urged NNRA staff to leverage the expertise and training offered during this mission to enhance radiation monitoring and ensure the highest level of protection for workers, patients, and the public.
