The NNRA held the final meeting of the European Commission funded project titled “Increased Capacity and Capabilities of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NG3.01/22).”
The event brought together representatives of the European Commission , project experts, contractors, and staff of the Authority to review the progress and key achievements recorded under the initiative aimed at strengthening the regulatory capacity of the NNRA.
The Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the NNRA, Dr. Yau Idris, who was represented by the General Manager, Radiological Safety Department, Mr. Farouq Ingawa, emphasized the importance of international collaboration in advancing Nigeria’s nuclear regulatory framework. He noted that the project has contributed significantly to strengthening institutional systems, enhancing regulatory structures, and building the capacity of staff for more effective oversight of nuclear and radiological activities in the country.
Also speaking at the event, European Commission Expert, Hélène Jaurioux, commended the Authority for its commitment to the successful implementation of the project. She highlighted the strong partnership between Nigeria and the European Union in promoting global nuclear safety standards.
The Project Contractor, Ioana Popa, noted that the collaboration has supported key areas including regulatory framework development, the establishment of integrated management systems, and strengthening human resource capacity within the Authority.
