NIGERIA WELCOMES CTBTO EXECUTIVE SECRETARY, STRENGTHENS GLOBAL NUCLEAR TEST BAN EFFORTS

The DG/CEO Dr. Yau Idris & Ag.Chairman of the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) welcomed and accompanied the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), Dr Robert Floyd to the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima GCON.

Dr Floyd is in Nigeria to foster cooperation and encourage the act of data sharing amongst relevant entities in the events of any earth or surface movement as a result of explosions, tremors or earthquakes for easy detection of nuclear based tests.

The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) bans all nuclear test explosions, whether for military or civilian purposes. The Treaty was opened for signature in 1996 to stop the development of new nuclear weapons and prevent upgrades to existing ones, supporting global efforts in non-proliferation and disarmament.

The Executive Secretary of the CTBTO, Dr Robert Floyd was hosted by Nigeria's high ranking Government officials including the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima GCON, Hon. Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology and The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

While in Nigeria, Dr Floyd is expected to visit some relevant agencies of Government to foster collaboration to enhance data sharing and cooperation.
