IAEA CONFIRMS NIRPR's MEMBERSHIP IN ALMERA NETWORK

The National Institute of Radiation Protection and Research (NIRPR) Ibadan Laboratory, a technical support organization of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) has been accepted as member of the Analytical Laboratories of the Measurement of Environmental Radioactivity (ALMERA).

ALMERA is a network of Laboratories established by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 1995. The network is aimed at providing reliable and timely analysis of environmental samples that are used for both routine and emergency environmental monitoring of radioactivity by Member States.

The IAEA helps the ALMERA network to maintain readiness in coordinating their activities especially in the areas of organization of Proficiency Test (PT) and Interlaboratory Comparisons (ILCs) exercises, the development and validation of analytical procedures for the measurement of environmental radioactivity, and the organization of training courses and workshops.

ALMERA acts as a pool of expertise in research, assessment and capacity building and is coordinated by the IAEA Environmental Laboratories.
