
The Acting Director of the Technical Cooperation and Project Management Office (PMO) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr. Gashaw Gbebeyehu Wolde, paid an official visit to the headquarters of the NNRA. The visit aims to strengthen collaboration, assess ongoing projects, and enhance the effective implementation of IAEA-supported technical cooperation programmes in Nigeria.
Welcoming the delegation, the Director General/CEO of the NNRA, Dr. Yau Idris, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to ensuring safety, security, and regulatory compliance in all nuclear-related practices. Mr. Wolde commended the NNRA for its progress in strengthening Nigeria’s regulatory framework, while Mr. Michel Edward, Head of the Section for Africa, lauded the Authority’s leadership in promoting radiation protection, nuclear law development, and safe application of nuclear technology, particularly in healthcare.
Dr. Idris expressed appreciation for the IAEA’s continued support and assured the delegation of NNRA’s readiness to uphold international best practices in nuclear safety and security. The Acting Chairman of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), Engr. Dr. Anthony Ekedegwa, also applauded the collaboration between NAEC and NNRA, emphasizing the need for stronger coordination and capacity development. All parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in advancing nuclear safety, security, and technical capacity in Nigeria.
