CHINESE GOVERNMENT TO GRANT ON ANNUAL BASES 6 STAFF OF NNRA FULL SCHOLARSHIPS

The DG/CEO of NNRA had a meeting with the representatives of the Chinese government on the 15th of January 2024 to discuss modalities for the annual sponsorship of 6 NNRA staff by the Chinese government to study in China starting in 2024.

The sponsorship is under the Atomic Energy Scholarship (AES) programme of China jointly initiated by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) to support 4 NNRA staff annually to study in China in nuclear science and related professional master’s degree along the nuclear energy technology and international cooperation in the field of education, nuclear energy technology resources sharing, common development and common prosperity.

The other program is the Tsinghua University International Master’s Program in Nuclear Engineering and Management (TUNEM) of which 2 NNRA staff will also be sponsored annually. TUNEM is a 2-year professional degree program with a full scholarship, which is tremendously supported by the National Energy Administration of China and the Ministry of Education of China.

Also discussed at the meeting was the draft MOU between NNRA and the China National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA). The MOU aims to create a framework for the Parties to cooperate in establishing networks through strategic relations at the institutional level with common interest, focusing on nuclear safety, Licensing, regulatory and legal framework as well as non-proliferation and safeguards.

Created in 1984, the NNSA is a central government agency responsible for regulating nuclear safety, and supervision on all civilian nuclear infrastructure in China.
