BASIC PROFESSIONAL TRAINING COURSE ON NUCLEAR SAFETY

BASIC PROFESSIONAL TRAINING COURSE ON NUCLEAR SAFETY

A 2-week National Workshop on Basic Professional Training Course (BPTC) on Nuclear Safety is underway in Abuja, Nigeria. The training is organized by the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) for Regulatory Staff of the Authority and will run through 23rd November to 4th December, 2020.

The training is primarily oriented towards junior nuclear professionals involved in nuclear safety-related activities and also targets highly specialized professionals who lack a broader view of nuclear safety.

The NNRA as the only competent Nuclear Regulatory Authority in Nigeria has put in place a framework for ensuring that its staff are competent and equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude. The BPTC is thus one of the vital trainings needed to bridge competency gap in the Organization.

Addressing the participants, the DG/CEO Dr. Yau Idris welcomed all participants stating that the training course comprises 23-module and incorporates all current IAEA Safety Standards, thus, it’s set to provide participants with the basic concepts of nuclear technology, nuclear safety, safety assessments and regulatory oversight of nuclear facilities.

He thanked the Resource Persons and especially the invited experts for honoring the call and urged all participants to actively participate in the workshop and tap from the pool of knowledge of the experts.

The training course has in attendance 40 participants covering all technical departments in the Headquarters, Institute of Radiation Protection and Research (NIRPR) Ibadan, Nuclear Security Center (NSC), Zonal and State Offices.
