AUTHORIZATION OF NUCLEAR AND RADIOACTIVE MATEIRALS….DG NNRA MEETS WITH MANAGEMENT OF NATIONAL HOSPITAL, ABUJA.

The DG/CEO Dr. Yau Idris on 7^th June, 2023 welcomed the Management of National Hospital, Abuja to a courtesy visit in his office at the NNRA Headquarters.

The visit, according to the National Hospital team lead, Dr. G Badamasi was to strengthen bilateral and working relationship between the NNRA and the hospital. He affirmed that the hospital recognizes NNRA as a competent regulator and sole government agency that issues Authorization for all nuclear and radioactive materials as well as ionizing generating equipment used in the different sectors of the economy in the country including the Health sector. Hence, the primary aim of the visit was to enquire the Hospital’s Authorization status with NNRA as its regulator so as fulfill all necessary requirements for Authorization.

The DG/CEO NNRA, Dr. Yau Idris having welcomed the team highlighted the activities of the Authority, particularly the authorizations given to the various sectors of the economy that use nuclear and radioactive materials and stated that for health facilities, NNRA issues Authorization for Radiotherapy, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Practices among others.

He emphasized that paying of licensing fees does not guarantee obtaining the license, as all requirements must be fully met for Authorization to be issued and as such commended the management of National Hospital for always making work easy for the Authority by constantly updating their records with the Authority. He assured the team of NNRA’s commitment to work with the hospital in order to ensure the safety of lives, property and the environment of both the workers and patients of the facility.
