As part of the ongoing Regional Training Course on Radiation Emergency Management, participants from various African countries visited the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Abuja on 27 June 2025.
The visit provided participants with a valuable opportunity to gain practical insight into how NEMA coordinates national emergency preparedness and response, especially concerning radiological and nuclear incidents. Agency officials offered an overview of NEMA’s structure and mandate, and demonstrated the tools, protocols, and strategies employed in emergency mitigation and management.
The engagement also highlighted the critical role of institutional synergy, with NEMA acting as the primary coordinating body during disasters. Through the visit, participants gained direct insight into the operational workings of national coordination mechanisms and improved their understanding of effective inter-agency collaboration in radiation emergency management.
Overall, the visit offered valuable insight into Nigeria’s emergency response framework and reinforced the significance of coordinated institutional efforts in handling radiological and nuclear emergencies.
