
The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA), in collaboration with the European Union (EU), organized a Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on the Draft Nigerian Nuclear and Radiation Safety Policy and Strategy under the European Union Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation (EU-INSC) Project. The workshop was held at the Conference Room of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Abuja from 24–25 February 2026.
Representing the DG/CEO of NNRA, the General Manager, Radiological Safety Department, Mr. Farouq Ingawa stated that the workshop aimed to review the draft Policy and Strategy, clarify institutional roles and responsibilities, and obtain stakeholders’ inputs toward the finalisation and effective national implementation of the Policy and Strategy.
The Director-General of ECN, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi welcomed participants and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting the successful development and implementation of the Policy and Strategy.
Participants drawn from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, security institutions, and technical organisations reviewed key provisions of the draft document with a view to strengthening Nigeria’s nuclear and radiation safety framework in line with international best practices.
