NNRA WELCOMES IAEA NUCLEAR SAFEGUARDS INSPECTORS FOR ANNUAL PHYSICAL INVENTORY VERIFICATION

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) hosted inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the annual Physical Inventory Verification (PIV) exercise. 

This activity forms part of the Safeguards Agreement (INFCIRC/358) between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the IAEA under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

In conjunction with the PIV exercise, the NNRA organized a One (1)-day Technical Workshop aimed at building staff capacity and enhancing collaboration with the IAEA. The session focused on the implementation of safeguards related to Nuclear Material imports and exports Control, and Complementary Access Overview.

The workshop was positively received by NNRA staff, who appreciated the opportunity for knowledge exchange and technical engagement. The visit further strengthened the partnership between the NNRA and the IAEA, underscoring Nigeria’s dedication to upholding high regulatory standards and advancing expertise in the nuclear sector.
