NNRA TO CONDUCT NATIONAL TRAINING COURSE FOR RADIATION SAFETY OFFICERS (RSO) IN THE MINING INDUSTRY IN MARCH 2026 IN JOS, PLATEAU STATE

The Technical Support Organization (TSO) of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA), The National Institute of Radiation Protection and Research (NIRPR), Ibadan in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Vienna, Austria is pleased to announce the organization of a National Training Course for Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs) in the Mining Industry (Solid Minerals) scheduled from 9 to 11 March 2026 in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.

This specialized training aims to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills needed to ensure radiation safety in solid mineral mining and processing activities. The training will cover Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) and Technicality Enhanced (TE) NORM challenges, monitoring, dose assessment, radiation protection programmes, handling, transportation, and all the regulatory compliance.

The training is for: Current or prospective RSO in mining or mineral processing; Staff of regulatory bodies, environmental agencies, laboratories, and consultancies; contractors in drilling, blasting, hauling, processing, and waste management; and young science or engineering graduates seeking careers in radiation protection (Physics, Geology, Mining, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, etc.)
