NNRA MEETS WITH INDTN AND RRBN TO HARMONISE INDUSTRIAL RADIOGRAPHERS’ QUALIFICATION STANDARDS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA), on 23 July 2026, received officials of the Institute of Non-Destructive Testing – Nigeria (INDTN) and the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) on a courtesy visit at the NNRA Conference Hall, Abuja, to deliberate on the Guidelines for the Qualification and Responsibilities of Industrial Radiographers in Nigeria.

The meeting focused on harmonising the guidelines governing the qualification and certification of Industrial Radiographers in Nigeria. Following extensive deliberations, the parties agreed to allow additional time to align their positions and address outstanding issues before proceeding with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). They also resolved to convene a tripartite meeting to strengthen collaboration and consolidate the outcomes of the discussions.

Speaking during the engagement, the Director General/CEO of the NNRA, Dr. Yau Usman Idris, underscored the importance of collaboration among regulatory and professional bodies in enhancing radiation safety and professional competence in Nigeria. He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure that Industrial Radiographers are appropriately qualified and certified in line with national regulatory requirements and international best practices.

The meeting represents another significant step towards strengthening the regulatory framework for industrial radiography in Nigeria through enhanced inter-agency collaboration, standardisation, and adherence to global best practices.
