NNRA CONDUCTS 5TH NATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR EDITORS AND CORRESPONDENTS ON NUCLEAR SAFETY AND RADIOLOGICAL PROTECTION

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) organized the 5th National Workshop for Journalists on Nuclear Safety and Radiological Protection on 24th November, 2021 at the Authority’s Headquarters, Abuja.

The objective of the workshop was to intimate the Journalists on the regulatory functions of the NNRA. It also aimed at exposing and challenging the Journalists to play a more involving role in enlightening the public on the activities of the NNRA, especially on the implementation and enforcement of nuclear and radiation safety regulations.

Dr. Nasiru Bello, General Manager, Nuclear Safety Physical Security and Safeguards who represented the DG/CEO Dr. Yau Idris, welcomed the participants and stated that the workshop is an awareness program between the NNRA and media practitioners in the country on the safety and security of nuclear technology. He encouraged the participants to seize the opportunity to know more about the activities of the NNRA in order to relay same to the public. 

The participants appreciated the Management of the Authority for organizing such an eye opening workshop and promised to relay the activities of NNRA to the public in order to promote and enhance compliance by facilities thereby protecting lives, property and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.

Participants were drawn from different media organizations and the Information Unit of the NNRA. The participating organizations are Federal Ministry of Information, News Agency of Nigeria, National Orientation Agency, Voice of Nigeria, Nigerian Television Authority, AIT, Vanguard Newspaper, The Punch Newspaper, Thisday Newspaper, Daily Trust, National Mirror, The Sun, Leadership, The Authority, Tribune, The Nation, Guardian,  Channels, TVC, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Kiss FM, Cool FM, Science Nigeria, Online Media: Intervention.
