NNRA’S NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH AND RADIATION PROTECTION IBADAN, BECOMES MEMBER OF IAEA/WHO SSDL NETWORK.

The National Institute of Research and Radiation Protection (NIRPR), a technical support arm of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority receives its certificate of membership into the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and World Health Organisation (WHO) Network of Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratories (SSDL) on 24th March, 2020.

NIRPR is a technical arm of the Authority responsible for calibration of radiation measuring instruments in Nigeria. It also maintains national dosimetry standards and provides traceable calibrations of radiation measuring instruments to end-users in Nigeria.

The Institute was certified based on an IAEA expert mission reports submitted to the IAEA/WHO which showed that NIRPR had fulfilled all the necessary requirements for the membership in the Network.

Membership into SSDL Network will assist the NIRPR in ensuring that radiation measurement results obtained from dosimetry equipment in Nigeria are consistent with International Systems of Units which will further ensure that patients, staff and the general public are protected from excessive exposure to ionizing radiation.
