HEAD OF NNRA DEPARTMENT OF NUCLEAR RESEARCH REACTOR SAFETY AND SAFEGUARD (NRRS&S) PRESENTS SEMINAR.

Mr Audu Mohammed, the General Manager of the department of NRRS&S stated that NNRA is committed to ensuring safety and security in Nigeria’s nuclear research reactor and safeguarding nuclear material in Nigeria during In-house seminar. The department oversight over the Nigeria Nuclear Research Reactor at the Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT, in Zaria and other nuclear installations in the country.

Mr Audu while highlighting the department’s achievements, stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recognized Nigeria’s progress in safeguards activities, including the development of procedures for additional protocol and nuclear material accounting.

He further added that 38 locations outside facilities have been brought under safeguards in Nigeria as reported by the IAEA. Additionally, he said that the department conducted its first joint safety and safeguards inspection at the Nigerian Research Reactor-1 (NiRR-1) in Zaria and has successfully overseen its operation and conducted quarterly safety inspections.
