NNRA REITERATES ITS COMMITMENT IN ENSURING OPTIMAL UTILIZATION AND PERFORMANCE OF THE NUCLEAR RESEARCH REACTOR IN AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY ZARIA.

The Director General/CEO Dr. Yau Idris, received the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Professor Kabiru Bala and his entourage when they paid him a courtesy visit at the NNRA Headquarters in Abuja on 7th July, 2020.

Prof. Kabiru Bala stated that the objective of the meeting was to call for Synergy between both Organizations saying that the existing working relationship must be strengthened as NNRA is one of its key stakeholders. He urged the Authority to ensure the effective functionality of the Nuclear Research Reactor domiciled at the Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT) ABU Zaria for safe operations.

Dr. Yau Idris thanked the Vice Chancellor and his entourage for the visit noting that it was the first time a Vice Chancellor would be visiting the Authority. He pointed out the importance and potentials of the Nuclear Research Reactor to the country including services CERT could offer especially in soil fertility mapping of the Country, the purpose for which the International Community allowed Nigeria to build the Facility in 2004. As such, the Nuclear Research Reactor must be made functional and effective as it can improve the socio-economic fortune of the Country.

The DG/CEO however, highlighted some regulatory challenges faced with the CERT and requested the Vice Chancellor to ensure that regular and timely review/update on the reactor’s performance is carried out by the assigned body. He assured the Vice Chancellor of NNRA’s commitment to ensure the reactor’s optimal utilization and safe operation through vigorous regulatory oversight.

Professor Kabiru Bala congratulated Dr. Yau Idris on his recent appointment as Director General/CEO of the NNRA and wished him a successful tenure.
