The Management and staff of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority applaud President Mohammadu Buhari on the confirmation of Dr. Yau Idris as the substantive DG of NNRA.
Dr Yau is one of the pioneer staff of the Authority having risen steadily in rank to his current position of DG/CEO NNRA. He is the most senior staff of the Authority and has been the acting DG for some months before his confirmation. His appointment is very historic as this the first time the Chief Executive is appointed from within the organization.
Dr. Yau Idris is an experienced nuclear regulator and radiation protection expert with vast experience in the nuclear industry both locally and internationally. He is currently the Vice Chairman, Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies Africa (FNRBA) and the coordinator and Team Lead of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)/FNRBA Technical Working Group on Education, Training and Knowledge Management (TWG6). A Member of the International Working Forum on Regulatory Supervision of Legacy sites (RSLS), a Member of the IAEA Steering Committee on Competence of Human Resources for Regulatory Bodies and is a Member of the Steering Committee of the FNRBA.
He also coordinates several IAEA nuclear safety and radiation protection projects in Nigeria just to mention but a few. His contributions to the progress and stability of the nuclear industry cannot be overemphasized.
Beyond the nuclear industry, Dr. Yau has 15years of experience as a lecturer/researcher in physics with Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and University of Maiduguri Nigeria. He also served as a Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources in Kaduna state Nigeria.
Without a doubt, Dr. Yau is the right man for the job considering his many years of experience and knowledge of the nuclear industry which will definitely engender new strides and positive changes in NNRA.
The entire staff of NNRA wishes Dr. Yau Idris a successful reign.
