The Nigerian Chapter of Women in Nuclear (WiN), on 21st May, 2019 paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA). The team which was led by Mrs. Moyosola Abubakar, Manager Authorization and Enforcement was received by the Acting Director General Dr Yau Usman Idris in his office at the NNRA headquarters.

In her remark, Mrs Abubakar appreciated the Ag. DG/CEO for his audience and introduced WiN Nigeria Chapter stating the objectives of WiN global as:

• To support and encourage women working professionally in nuclear industries throughout the world particularly energy and radiation applications which includes medicine and health care, regulatory authorities, industry and independent researchers.

• Promoting and creating public awareness of the benefits of nuclear and radiation applications through a series of active networks, nationally, regionally and internationally.

The team lead further stated that WiN global has about 35,000 members including chapter membership and individuals from over 109 countries and still growing. Members have a common commitment to providing information and contributions to the knowledge and experiences of its associates and also, communicate with the public.

She also stated that Nigeria has a robust nuclear industry and the women from the NNRA are set to champion the Nigerian chapter like South Africa and other member nations, while expecting other Nigerian women in the nuclear industry to join.

The delegation solicited for support from the NNRA stating that women in the NNRA may be required to attend periodic meetings and conferences and would be needing approval from their immediate supervisors.

The Ag. DG/CEO, responded by commending the WiN Nigeria Chapter team for being proactive, affirming that women in NNRA are strong enough to uphold the Nigerian Chapter. He assured the team of continual support from the NNRA and suggested that the first WiN conference will be sponsored by the NNRA, adding that the team should choose a venue, get key note speakers and get a date in 2019 for the inaugural event.

Mrs Abubakar thanked the Ag. DG/ CEO on behalf of the team and promised to deliver an exceptional conference before the end of 2019.
